Education System

In Ireland, all children between the ages of 6 and 16 must attend school. Either the youngsters must attend school until they are 16 years old, or they must complete three years of high school. Ireland’s educational system is separated into three levels, each of which offers state-funded instruction. Private sources provide the pre-school education. Ireland has three educational levels:

1. The Primary Education Level

While it is not required by law for children to attend school until they are 6 years old in Ireland, they are able to do so starting in the September after they turn 4 years old. The majority of primary schools are run by private organisations that represent various religious groups but are supported by the government.

2. Post-Primary Education, Second Level

Junior cycles, which last three years, and senior cycles make up post-primary schooling (which is for 2 years). When students are 12 years old, they often start the junior cycle. The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or the Leaving Certificate Applied are the two options students must select in their senior cycle in order to receive a Leaving Certificate. What type of third-level education the student can receive depends on the certificate’s nature.

3. Tertiary Education

It consists of schools of education that provide teacher preparation at various levels, as well as universities that have the authority to award degrees in a variety of bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programmes.

In addition to this, adult education includes the instruction and programmes provided to students who have finished their second-level coursework but did not continue on to the third level. It includes initiatives like Youthreach, the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme, and Post-Leaving Certificate courses.
