IELTS is a required exam used in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to evaluate candidates for academic and general purpose jobs. The British Council, IDP Education Australia, and the University of Cambridge work together to administrate IELTS.
Band scores are recorded on a Test Report form showing overall ability as well as performance in listening, reading, writing and speaking. There are 9 bands ranging from Band 1 to Band 9. Results are available approximately 12 days after the test date.
After taking the exam, candidates can only retake it three months later.
